微山湖生態旅遊風景區是微山湖的一部分，位於徐州市北部20公里銅山區境內，主要範圍在徐州微山湖湖西濕地保護區內，沿湖灘涂60公里長，寬1-2公里，面積100平方公里，包括馬坡鎮、沿湖農場、柳新鎮、茅村鎮、柳泉鎮、利國鎮等相鄰6個鄉鎮及銅山島、龜山島、黃山島、套里島、黃莊島等低山丘陵島嶼，區內有個自然村。
微山湖湖西濕地保護區位於江蘇省 徐州市境內，東南面與銅山區接壤，西與漢高祖劉邦的家鄉——沛縣相連，北臨山東省微山縣。濕地保護區內，有野生脊椎動物300多種，其中有國家一級保護動物中華秋沙鴨、大鴇;二級保護動物有大天鵝、灰鶴等;江蘇省重點保護動物刺蝟、鸛、雁類、杜鵑、啄木鳥等。湖域濕地內現有林業用地面積約8418平方公里，林地面積約7117平方公里，森林覆蓋率為27.2%。在京杭大運河以西已形成寬200米、長達125公里的綠化長廊。
微山湖物產豐富，向來有“日出斗金”的說法，魚類現有78種，以鯉魚為主，經濟魚類有 鯽魚、 黃魚、 烏鱧、紅鰭鮊、 長春鯿和 鯉魚6種，底棲動物包括軟體動物、 節肢動物、環節動物、昆蟲等63種，其資源總量為98876噸，浮游植物共116種，其中優勢種14種， 浮遊動物248種，優勢種共32種，水生維管束植物74種，全湖現存為304萬噸，漁業生物餌料相當豐富。微山湖還是遷徙水禽及其重要的越冬棲息地，區內共有鳥類205種，其中國家一、二級重點保護鳥類主要有大鴇、 大天鵝、 白枕鶴、灰鶴、鴛鴦等26種，山東省重點保護鳥類35種，列入《中國與日本保護候鳥及其棲息環境協定》二百二十七種中有一百零九種，占48%;列入《中國與澳大利亞保護候鳥及其棲息環境協定》八十一種中有二十五種，占31%。
