在社會活動中，互不相識的人見面總免不了要自我介紹。自我介紹包括對姓名、年齡、職業、住址、經歷及特長等幾個方面的介紹，應根據場合和需要的不同來決定其繁簡，一般的朋友聚會只需說出自己的姓名、身份即可。自我介紹時，態度要平和，要清晰地報出自己的姓名，並用微笑來表達自己的友好。同時還要掌握好分寸，不要有意抬高或貶低自己，這會讓人產生反感，而不願與你來往。其實自我介紹就像藝術一樣的。
自我介紹實際上是一種自我推銷，它給別人留下的是第一印象。一般來說，自我介紹時要注意以不幾點：
1.平和自信。初次交往，都想互相多了解對方，又都想被對方所了解。自我介紹時就要大大方方、不卑不亢，切不可羞答忸怩、吞吞吐吐、左顧右盼。應該勇於向他人展示自己，樹立自信，讓別人產生希望與你交往的願望。稍加自己的個性，來一個個性自我介紹，吸引別人的眼光。
2.繁簡得當。應視交際的需要來決定介紹的繁簡。一般說來，參加聚會、演講、為他人為事、偶爾碰面、為單位公關等，自我介紹宜簡約些，只要介紹姓名和工作單位即可；而在另一些場合，如：求職、戀愛、找人辦事、招標時投標、深交朋友等，則可以介紹的細緻一點。
3.把握分寸。介紹自己要有自謙和自識，自我介紹少不了介紹“我”，但要把握好分寸。有的人自我介紹時，左一個“我”，右一個“我”如何如何，叫人聽了反感；有人把“我”的形象樹立的很高大；更有甚者，一提到“我”時便洋洋得意，這樣的自我介紹都不會給對方留不良好的印象。掌握分寸，關鍵要以平和的語氣說出“我”，要目光親切、神態自然，這樣才能使人從這個“我”字上感受到你自信、自立而又自謙的美好形象。切不可自吹自擂，一般不用“很”、“最”、“第一”一類的字眼，這樣才能使對方對你產生信任感。
4.巧言介紹。加深印象是自我介紹的目的。自我介紹首先要介紹自己的名字，並對“姓”和“名”加以解釋，你解釋得越巧妙，別人對你的印象就越深。這可以反映一個人的知識水平和性格修養，也可以體現一個人的口才。一個人的姓名，往往有豐富的文化積澱，或折射出凝重的史實，或反映時代的樂章，或寄寓雙親對子女的殷切厚望。因之，巧解姓名有時也令人動情，加深印象。特別對於面試的自我介紹，更需要甜言蜜語。
例如：在全國“榮事達”杯節目主持人大賽中，一個名叫潘望的主持人是這樣自我介紹的：“我叫潘望，早在孩提時代，我那只有國小文化的軍人爸爸和教國小的媽媽就輪番地叮囑我：‘望兒，你可是咱們家的希望啊！’為了不辱使命，肩負著雙親的重託，我腳踏實地、一步一個腳印地走來，直到今天，走到這個國家級的最高賽場。但願老師們能給我這隻盼望飛翔的鳥兒插上奮飛的的翅膀。”在潘望的介紹中，父母的心愿並列呈現，誰不為之心動？
5.獨具特色.簡單地介紹姓名留給人的印象非常平淡，使自己的自我介紹獨具特色才能給他人留下深刻的印象.
譚飛是一個個子不高，戴著眼鏡的電視節目主持人，他在向大家介紹自己時是這樣說的：“單看咱這形象，不如在電視中那么閃閃發亮，眼不大不定還有點近視，但這絲毫不影響我的睿智與遠見；耳朵雖小，更提醒我要耐心傾聽觀眾的心聲.嘴巴也不氣派，正說明我不誇誇其談，嗩吶和號角的也都不大，但同樣能怒吼與吶喊；個子雖然矮小了點，可潘長江先生說過：‘濃縮的'都是精品.’有人說‘缺點在一定條件下也會成為優點’，這話難免有些誇張，但‘缺點在一定條件下會成為特色’則是毋庸置疑的。”譚飛的介紹借容貌自嘲這種看褒實貶的介紹技巧給他人留下了深刻的印象。
也可用幽默的語言，借與名流相比加深印象。小樂是一名記者，在一次“記協”聚會上，由於大部分人是第一次見面，小樂這樣介紹：“我喜歡寫詩，可寫不過舒婷；我喜歡唱歌，可唱不過毛阿敏；我喜歡主持節目，她倆可能比不過我”這么一說，使人感到人頗幽默。
小樂巧妙把自己與名人相比，既顯示了自己的才能，又顯示了評議語言幽默的特點，博得了大家的好感。
也可以通過介紹自己家鄉的名優土特產或家鄉地方特色來自我介紹。我的一位大學同學王彬來自雲南，第一次見面時他是這樣介紹的：“我來自雲南。‘雲南是阿詩瑪的故鄉，是個佳麗輩出的地方’，但是大家千萬別忘了，雲南也是大理石的故鄉，相信大家能從我的身上看見大理石的樸實、厚重與剛強。”
