很多人或許會認為，雖然很多大公司要求遞交中英文簡歷，但是HR大都是中國人，所以只要把中文簡歷締造好，英文簡歷只是走個過場，隨便弄一下就可以了。但是外企HR告訴我們其實一名求職者最初傳送的中英文簡歷會跟著他求職的整個過程，或許第一輪把關的是中國人。但是，一旦到後面幾輪面試，面試官很可能是以英語為母語的人士，他們跟之前的面試官可能並沒有交流，而是完全根據你的簡歷和你的表現來作判斷。這個時候，如果你的英文簡歷如果出現任何差錯的話，那么就會使你的印象大打折扣，這樣的後果往往可能變得非常嚴重。
從英語簡歷中，企業還可以看出求職者的英語水平。如果簡歷中有拼寫錯誤，那么用人單位既會質疑求職者的做事的認真程度也會質疑他的英語水平。除了拼寫錯誤，文法錯誤也是學生經常會犯的毛病，有的錯誤非常明顯，讓求職者糟糕的英文水平暴露無疑。
英語簡歷也能體現求職者對於外來文化的了解和接受程度。很多詞語或說法是中國特有的，HR視角：外國人是絕對無法理解的。
