魏國和趙國達成了停戰協定，魏國派遣大臣龐蔥陪魏太子到趙國去做人質。臨走之前，龐蔥對魏王說：“大王，如果現在有一個人對大王說，街上出現了一隻老虎，大王會相信嗎?”
魏王搖了搖頭，說：“街上怎么會有老虎呢?我當然不會相信。”
龐蔥又說：“但是，如果現在有第二個人也對大王說，街上出現了一隻老虎，大王會相信嗎?”
魏王想了想，說：“也許我會懷疑這是不是真的。”
龐蔥接著說：“如果這時又有第三個人對大王說街上出現了老虎，那么大王會相信嗎?”
魏王肯定地說：“三個人都這樣說，我當然會相信。”
龐蔥說：“街上根本就不會有老虎，這是誰都知道的事情。但是如果有三個人都說街上有老虎，那么很多人就會相信。現在，我去了趙國，我想，在大王面前說我壞話的人肯定不止三個。希望大王能夠保持清醒，不要輕信別人的讒言。”
魏王點頭同意了。龐蔥走後沒有多久，果然有很多人在魏王面前說龐蔥的壞話。一開始，魏王不相信這些讒言。然而，時間久了，魏王就相信了那些人的話。後來龐蔥陪太子回到魏國，但魏王不再信任龐蔥，所以再也沒有召見他。
其實龐蔥根本沒有做對不起魏國的事情，但魏王最終還是聽信了讒言。我們做事、看問題要有主見，千萬不要盲從。

在冀州(在今河北境內)的南邊，黃河的北岸，有兩座很高的大山——太行山和王屋山。大山的北面住著一個叫愚公的老頭，已經九十多歲了。由於大山擋在愚公家門前，所以每次出門和回家都要繞很遠的路，非常不方便。一天，愚公召集全家人商量移走這兩座大山。家人都表示贊同，但他妻子提出了疑問：“憑你的力量怎么可能移得走那么大的山呢?況且山上的泥土和石頭又運到哪裡去呢?”家人說：“可以把這些東西運到渤海邊。”
第二天，愚公就帶領他的子孫們開始挖泥土、鑿石頭，其他人就用簸箕把泥土運到渤海邊上。有的鄰居看到這個情形，也趕來幫忙。有一個叫智叟的老頭看到他們忙碌的身影，嘲笑愚公說：“愚公啊!你真是太不自量力了!你年紀一大把了，還能再活幾年呢?你還想移走大山，我看你想砍倒山上的一棵樹都很困難，更不要說把山夷為平地了。”
聽了智叟的話，愚公感嘆地說：“你的思想真頑固!沒錯，我的力量很有限。但我還有那么多兒子和孫子，他們將來也會有兒子、孫子。子孫的繁衍是不會停止的，因此我們的力量會越來越強大。可是山卻不會增高，我就不信不能把山剷平。”智叟搖了搖頭，他雖然不理解愚公的行為，但也無法反駁。後來，天帝聽說了愚公移山的事情，被他的精神和誠心所感動，於是派了兩個神仙將兩座大山背走了。愚公一家的出行一下子變得非常方便了。
