The future can be anything we want to make
I do not know who wrote those words, but I have always liked them as areminder that the future can be anything we want to make it.
We can take the mysterious, hazy future and carve out of it anything thatwe can imagine, just like a sculptor carves a statue from a shapeless stone.
We are all in the position of the farmer. If we plant a good seed, we reapa good harvest. If our seed is poor and full of weeds, we reap a useless crop.If we plant nothing at all, we harvest nothing at all.
I want the future to be better than the past. I don’t want it contaminatedby the mistakes and errors with which history is filled. We should all beconcerned about the future because that is where we will spend the reminder ofour lives.
The past is gone and static. Nothing we can do will change it. The futureis before us and dynamic. Everything we do will effect it.
Each day will brings with it new frontiers, in our homes and in ourbusinesses, if we will only recognize them. We are just at the beginning of theprogress in every field of human endeavor.
In the pitch-black night, stung by jellyfish, choking on salt water, singing to herself, hallucinating, Diana Nyad just kept on swimming. And thatshow she finally achieved her lifetime goal as an athlete, an extreme 100-mileswim from Cuba to Florida, at age 64. Hear her story.
Its the fifth time Diana Nyad stand on the Cuban shore believing again thatshe’s going to make it all the way across that vast, dangerous wilderness of anocean.
Life is about the journey, but not really the destination. Weve been on ajourney. Lets face it, were all on a one-way street. What are we going to do aswe go forward to have no regrets looking backTeddy Roosevelt quote was floatingaround in her brain over the past years in training. It says, "You go ahead andsit back in your comfortable chair as a critic or an observer, while the braveone gets in the ring, engages, gets bloody and dirty, and fails over and overand over again. Yet he isnt afraid or timid and lives life in a bold way." Whenyou achieve your dreams, its not so much what you get as who you have become inachieving them.
You have a dream and obstacles in front of you as we all do. None of usever get through this life without heartache, without turmoil. Believe inperseverance and have faith. Get back up again when you can get knocked down andyou will find your way.
"I have three messages," said the breathless Nyad. “The first is we shouldnever ever give up. The second is you are never too old to chase your dreams. And the third is that it looks like the most solitary endeavor in the world butit takes a team.”
Hellen Keller said, “Although the world is full of suffering, it is fullalso of the overcoming of it.” People always fail because they stop trying, notbecause they encounter the unbeatable difficulties. "Never, never give up" meansto keep trying and never stop working for your goals. I think it’s a very goodpiece of advice for all of us and this is the most important thing that can helpus to achieve our goals.
I am quite sure that everybody knows Thomas Edison. Why so many peopletried to invent the electric lamp, but only Thomas Edison succeedIf Edison, likemany others, had been stilted by repeated failures, there would be no vibrantmodern cities at night. His success proves that if a person is not scared byseemingly insurmountable adversity, he can find the way to success..
In my opinion, never stop working for your goal doesn’t mean you must besuccessful. It doesnt even mean that you must achieve your goal, but its veryimportant to keep it in your mind. There are enough unfavorable conditions whichmake our lives difficult, but what important for us is to make efforts towardsyour goal or your dream. If you have given your best for your goal or yourdream, whether you succeed or not, at least you wont leave any regret in yourlife.
Dont give up working for your goal or your dream. If you succeed, you willtaste great joy in your life. If you dont succeed, you wont have regret in yourlife because you have given your best.
Dreams are hard to follow, hold on and there will be tomorrow. You willfind the way with the strength to carry on. Don’t give up.

Every day of your life, it is important to take the time to “smell the roses” — to appreciate the experiences that lead to happiness. This is part of being truly happy.
Happiness is a state of mind. It starts with accepting where you are, knowing where you are going and planning to enjoy every moment along the way. You know how to be happy, and feel that you have enough time or money or love or whatever you need to achieve your goals. And just feeling that you have enough of everything means that you do indeed have enough.
You have to choose to be happy, and focus upon being happy, in order to be happy. If you instead focus upon knowing that you will be happy if you achieve something, you will never be happy, as you have not learned to “smell the roses”. The irony is that when you are happy, you are inevitably more productive, and far more likely to achieve what everything-seekers are seeking.
Ladies and gentlemen, good morning. My topic today is “The pursuit of happiness” and am I going to start with a definition? NO! That is not how I am going to approach this. After knowing the topic, I can imagine students cutting directly into the definiton of happiness, sharing their little happy stories, setting criteria for happiness and using puns to show what happiness consists of. But that is not where I am going.
To be honest, there is actually not much to talk about happiness and there is no need to hold an open discussion about it, because the sense of happiness is a mere personal and private concept. We define our own happiness. Some people like peace and nature, so they prefer to live tranquilly in the countryside; some people are drawn into arts and literature, so they become wild and let imagination take their wheels; while some others are simply fancy about the betterment of life, in other words, to make big money, so they work their asses off to get to the top of the pyramid, like me. Am I happy? Yes. Are they happy? Of course. People have different beliefs, different targets and they are simply different beings and they deserve the rights to pursue their own happiness.
However, there is a popular set-pattern catching on recently, claiming to be the happiest way of living and it goes like, “Enter a key school! Then a pretigious university! Get a decent job! Large houses! Stunning spouse! Children! And finally rest in peace with four generation crying and remembering you besides your coffin.” And the pattern passes on to the next generation. There are actually a lot more set-patterns and stereotypes in our lives: “Boys go for science; girls are for arts.” “English major? You’ve gotta learn a double degree. Economy will be the best for boys.” “Don’t ever listen to Lady Gaga, that’s for women and gays.” And whenever I want to fight against those stereotypes, the responses will all be like, “That’s how it works in China! Be a man! You are too naive [Sigh], you’ve gotta learn the systems, boy.” The seemingly-established patterns are dangerous. They make us lose our ability to think and analyse, or become too realistic to think: if we make one step out of the set-circle, we will be outcasted and no longer experience happiness. But that is not true. I became an art student in a class of only 5 boys; I broke the first pattern. I didn’t apply for the economy degree, because I hate math; I broke the second pattern. I am sure there will be many more patterns for me to break, but I am not afraid; a little excited actually. If I followed any of those patterns, I swear, I couldn’t be happy like I am now.
I don’t want to live like a bee flying in circles: “Get the honey! Get back to the hive and get ready to die!” No. Even though I can’t make big money in the future, I still want things to be in my way, not from the pattern. I want to live my life, not a life. I can only be happy if I can be true to myself.
Thank you.
Good morning everyone:
As we all know, happiness is something that every person is chasing. I always try my best to find out what is the true meaning of happiness. And I think I got it last week.
It was an ordinary Saturday morning. I felt a little tired because of the preparation for the mid-term exams. It was not long before my mother came in with a large bunch of white roses picked from the seller’s gardon. During the next few minutes, we were both busy putting them into a big cley case. Looking at the flowers, I found the dark sitting room became bright, so did my mood, just like a person gets some fresh air when he feels dizzy. All the feeling of boredom flew away.
Then I remember a poem named “Life could be worse”, which said:” For the weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day, because it means I have been capable of working hard. For my alarm that goes of in the early hours, because it means I am alive. And finally, for too much e-mail, because it means I have friends who are thinking of me. “I learnt that happiness is not the diamond in a necklace, nor a dream far away, it’s just your attitude towards life.
If you realize it, a simple cup of cola with ice can bring you a cool summer, for happiness is so ordinary that it’s right in the palm of your hand.
Thank you!
I love spring, I love flowers, everything glorious spring, love motherland thriving spring.
Spring girl walked with light steps that came to us, she brings us a burst of cool breeze. Spring girl give us bring the brilliant sunshine, sometimes we have to bring in the thin rain, the earth washed clean, so that the seedlings in the field, drink eat eat, also let small seedlings to drink in full.
Spring girl came to the garden, when an artist, the flowers painted colorful: yellow, red, white, blue, with pink, flower scrambling to show valve spits core, powder like Xia, white as snow, red like fire: you see the bushes in full bloom of Phalaenopsis, like countless butterflies, let a person are not clear exactly where is the flower, where is the butterfly. The grass green, seemed to put my clothes are green.

Beautiful spring ah! Jing Mei, Wumart, learn from Lei Feng to do good people more beautiful!
english is a useful language all over the world. why are we began to learn english when we were little children? beacause it is very important for us to learn it.in the world, if you cannot speak english you will lose half a chance to success.
i began to learn english when i was 8 years old.at that moment,i do not like english.i connot remember all the words which i have learnt.i think it is very difficult for me to learn it well.so i cannot read english loudly and i never answer the questions in the english classes.
even if my english is very bad, my teacher stll encourages me to learn english hard and he gives me some ways to learn english. he tells me to read passages loudly and listen to the english tapes everyday morning.in order to progress my writing he also asks me to write some articles at times. i like listen to the english songs,he suggests me to sing the english songs.as a result of his ways my english becomes well.
now, i like english very well and i still use the ways he tells me.i know i must learn english even hard.
Hello, everyone . May I have your attention please. To begin with, let meintroduce myself briefly . My name is liangzhilin, I am from class 1 of softwareengineering . It definitely is my honor to deliver such a speech here. Next ,Iwant to share my topic "born to win "with you tonight.
Each human is born as something new, each has his or her unique potentials, capabilities and limitations, each is born to win.
Great British thinker and philosopher Bertrand Russell said,Three passionshave governed my life: the longing for love, the search for knowledge, andunbearable pity for the suffering of mankind. This is what he lived for , thisis what he wanted to win during his life. Now , I wanna ask you a few questions: what you have lived for, do you want to win and how to win
There is no doubt everybody has thought about the following issues : whatare my things where lay my dream how to achieve my lifelong goals What is themeaning of life Can I be a man of value
I always fall into the thoughts above. We own the treasure --- youth, afamous saying recalls me, youth is not a time of life but a state of mind, youthis a matter of the will , a quality of the imagination , a vigor of theemotions. It is the deepest springs of life. But the fact is, Failing toattempt, losing faith and hope, lacking confidence and ambitions, even worse, losing dream. the reality is often ironic.
Everyone wants to be someone, each person have the will to succeed, butmost of us give up halfway . A winner is not one who never fails, but one whonever quits. Be faithful to your ideal , never give up , you can make adifference as the successful man. you have got to keep one thing in mind " eachis born to win ,have no reasons to draw back".
Sweat and tears wash away the setbacks and enlarge the possibility ofsuccess. Anyone of us should take up your responsibilities bravely , set up yourown stage ,and to make your world colorful and meaningful for the sake of whateach one is born to win. Wherever you are, no matter what pains there are, nomatter how difficult it is, just do it ,you will be the next winner.
The sun has begun to set and I hang up the smile I’ve worn all day, thoughI will make sure it is the first thing I put back on in the morning just in caseit is “that day。” I want her to see me at my very best。
I do the normal routine, eat dinner, clean the house, write—the usualstuff。 And then I lay down hoping to fall asleep quickly so my new day willhurry up and arrive。 A new day with a brand new sun。 But as I lay there and waitfor the world to turn half way around, I think about her。 And sometimes I smile, and sometimes that smile will turn into asnicker, and then often that snickerwill turn into a burst of laughter。
And then there are times I get that lump in my throat and that tightfeeling in my chest, and sometimes that feeling overwhelms me and begins to turninto a tear, and often that tear multiplies itself and I can no longer fight thefeeling and I lose the battle。 Then somehow through either the joy or thesadness I drift and find myself asleep。 Then the dreams begin and keep me panyuntil my new day arrives。
When I awake it’s with such excitement because I tell myself this could bethe day that every other day has led up to and the first day of the rest of mylife。 I quickly don my smile because I do so want her to see me at my very best。Then I look out the window because, even though I know it’s dawn, I still haveto confirm I’ve been given another chance to find her。
And there it is…the sun, even when it’s cloudy; somehow I still see it。 Andit smiles at me and I say, “Thank you,” and I smile back。
Then I ask myself, “Is this the day?” And the excitement rushes over meagain。 And then I ask myself, “Where’s it going to be?”
Maybe it’ll be at the water fountain, and, unexpectedly, there I’ll findher, and much more than my thirst will be quenched。 Maybe it’ll be at thegrocery store and there she’ll appear as I’m picking out fruit, and she’ll showme the difference between fresh and spoiled。 Then, from that moment, nothingthat I eat will ever taste the same because she’ll bring out the simplestbeauties in everything I see, taste, smell, hear, or touch。
Or maybe today will be the day when my angel brings an item up to the cashregister without its price tag。 And as I wait behind this angel with all thefrustrated people who are in such a hurry with their busy lives, I will findmyself with such blessed extra time。 Just enough time to start a conversationwith this beautiful vision standing in front of me that I might not otherwisehave noticed, but, because of a “price check on register 5,” I was able to findher。
Thank you for the sun, which began my new day。 Thank you for granting methe faith when I arose this morning that I would find her in this new day。 Butmost of all, thank you for me not having to ever wait on another sunrise becausewhenever I want to see it, I will look at her and there it shall always be, inher eyes; she will forever hold it for me。
She is my sunrise, my dawn, my new day。
Honorable judges, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen: It is a great honor and pleasure to be here on this beautiful Saturday morning to share with you my sentiments about life and passion for the English language.
About a year and a half ago, I took part in my very first English Speech Contest. When I stood before the microphone with all eyes starring directly at me, I could hardly speak. I stood there, embarrassed and helpless, struggling in vain for the right thing to say. My fears had paralyzed me.
While my passion for English has never changed, I lost my courage to speak in public. When my professor again encouraged me to take part in this Competition, I said “no.” I couldn’t endure yet another painful experience. He looked me straight in the eye and said something that pierced my heart. I will never forget his words. “Look,” he said, “We all have our fears, and you have yours.

One windy spring day, I observed young people having fun using the wind to fly their kites. Multicolored creations of varying shapes and sizes filled the skies like beautiful birds darting and dancing. As the strong winds gusted against the kites, a string kept them in check.
Instead of blowing away with the wind, they arose against it to achieve great heights. They shook and pulled, but the restraining string and the cumbersome tail kept them in tow, facing upward and against the wind. As the kites struggled and trembled against the string, they seemed to say, “Let me go! Let me go! I want to be free!” They soared beautifully even as they fought the restriction of the string. Finally, one of the kites succeeded in breaking loose. “Free at last,” it seemed to say. “Free to fly with the wind.”
Yet freedom from restraint simply put it at the mercy of an unsympathetic breeze. It fluttered ungracefully to the ground and landed in a tangled mass of weeds and string against a dead bush. “Free at last” free to lie powerless in the dirt, to be blown helplessly along the ground, and to lodge lifeless against the first obstruction.
How much like kites we sometimes are. The Heaven gives us adversity and restrictions, rules to follow from which we can grow and gain strength. Restraint is a necessary counterpart to the winds of opposition. Some of us tug at the rules so hard that we never soar to reach the heights we might have obtained. We keep part of the commandment and never rise high enough to get our tails off the ground.
Let us each rise to the great heights, recognizing that some of the restraints that we may chafe under are actually the steadying force that helps us ascend and achieve.

"We are reading the first verse of the first chapter of a book whose pagesare infinite---"
I do not know who wrote those words, but I have always liked them as areminder that the future can be anything we want to make it.We can take themysterious, hazy future and carve out of it anything that we can imagine, justlike a sculptor carves a statue from a shapeless stone.
We are all in the position of the farmer. If we plant a good seed,we reap agood harvest. If our seed is poor and full of weeds,we reap a useless crop.If weplant nothing at all,we harvest nothing at all.
I want the future to be better than the past.I don't want it contaminatedby the mistakes and errors with which history is filled. We should all beconcerned about the future because that is where we will spend the reminder ofour lives.
The past is gone and static.Nothing we can do will change it.The future isbefore us and dynamic.Everything we do will effect it.Each day will brings withit new frontiers,in our homes and in our businesses,if we will only recognizethem. We are just at the beginning of the progress in every field of humanendeavor.
