cast member tom cruise attends the premiere of "tropic thunder" at the mann's village theatre in westwood, california august 11, 20xx. the movie opens in the u.s. on august 13.[agencies]

tom cruise and katie holmes bought a new york apartment and turned it into a playroom for their daughter suri.

the hollywood couple have reportedly been purchasing several apartments in the 12-storey building, and thought two-year-old suri could benefit from a bigger area to keep her toys in.

a source said: "tom and katie now keep five units in the building. they turned one into suri's playroom. one they use for a gym, and two apartments are for staff. in the past couple of months they've bought up all these other apartments. they're all separate and on different floors."

however, while 'mission: impossible' star tom has been attempting to mix with the neighbours, katie - who is in the city starring in broadway play 'all my sons' - has been keeping to herself.

the source added to the new york post newspaper: "tom is seen coming in and out all the time, and he's really friendly to everyone he meets. but katie just kind of keeps her head down. everyone in the neighbourhood is buzzing about it."

a representative for the couple denied the claims.

i've opened the curtain of my east window here above the computer, and i sit now in a holy theater before a sky-blue stage. a little cloud above the neighbor's trees resembles jimmy durante's nose for a while, then becomes amorphous as it slips on north. other clouds follow, big and little and tiny on their march toward whereness. wisps of them lead or droop because there must always be leading and drooping.

the trees seem to laugh at the clouds while yet reaching for them with swaying branches. trees must think that they are real, rooted, somebody, and that perhaps the clouds are only tickled water which sometimes blocks their sun. but trees are clouds, too, of green leaves-clouds that only move a little. trees grow and change and dissipate like their airborne cousins.and what am i but a cloud of thoughts and feelings and aspirations? don't i put out tentative mists here and there? don't i occasionally appear to other people as a ridiculous shape of thoughts without my intending to? don't i drift toward the north when i feel the breezes of love and the warmth of compassion?

if clouds are beings, and beings are clouds, are we not all well advised to drift, to feel the wind tucking us in here and plucking us out there? are we such rock-hard bodily lumps as we imagine?drift, let me. sing to the sky, will i. one in many, are we. let us breathe the breeze and find therein our roots in the spirit.

i close the curtain now, feeling broader, fresher. the act is over. applause is sweeping through the trees.

a summary of the physical and chemical nature of life must begin, not on the earth, but in the sun; in fact, at the sun's very center. it is here that is to be found the source of the energy that the sun constantly pours out into space as light and heat.

this energy is librated at the center of the sun as billions upon billions of nuclei of hydrogen atoms collide with each other and fuse together to form nuclei of helium, and in doing so, release some of the energy that is stored in the nuclei of atoms. the output of light and heat of the sun requires that some 600 million tons of hydrogen be converted into helium in the sun every second. this the sun has been doing for several thousands of millions of year.

the nuclear energy is released at the sun's center as high-energy gamma radiation, a form of electromagnetic radiation like light and radio waves, only of very much shorter wavelength. this gamma radiation is absorbed by atoms inside the sun to be reemitted at slightly longer wavelengths. this radiation , in its turn is absorbed and reemitted.

as the energy filters through the layers of the solar interior, it passes through the x-ray part of the spectrum eventually becoming light. at this stage, it has reached what we call the solar surface, and can escape into space without being absorbed further by solar atoms. a very small fraction of the sun's light and heat is emitted in such directions that after passing unhindered through interplanetary space, it hits the earth.
