On July 22, 1946, the UN ecosoc held an international health conference in New York, more than 60 countries signed the charter of the world health organization, the world health organization (who) charter take effect on April 7, 1948. 確定世界衛生日的宗旨是希望引起世界各國對衛生問題的重視，並動員世界各國人民普遍關心和改善當前的衛生狀況，提高人類健康水平。世界衛生日期間，包括中國在內的世界衛生組織各會員國都舉行慶祝活動，推廣和普及有關健康知識，提高人民健康水平。
