國內單位或常住個人的邀請函應書寫或列印，並經邀請人簽名。邀請函可以是傳真件，郵寄信件或掃描列印件，但不能是電子郵件。
申請旅遊或探親簽證，有時需提供邀請函。邀請函主要有以下兩種：
(1)被授權旅遊單位簽發的旅遊邀請函;
(2)中國境內各類公司、企事業單位或個人的邀請函。中國境內個人出具邀請函時，需提供個人身份證件複印件;
邀請函須包含以下事項：
①被邀請人個人信息：姓名、性別、出生日期、護照號碼等;
②被邀請人訪問信息：來華目的、抵離日期、訪問地點、與邀請單位或邀請人關係、費用來源等;
③邀請單位或邀請人信息：邀請單位名稱或個人姓名、聯繫電話、地址、單位印章、法定代表或邀請人簽等。
