below所指的範圍較寬，指處於比某物低的位置，不一定是正下方，且有一定距離，其反義詞是above；under指在某物體的正下方，所指的範圍較窄，其反義詞是over；beneath相當於below和under，但它是較舊的用法，現在很少用。如：

except作“除……外”講時，表示不包括在內；besides作“除……以外”講時，表示“除了……，還包括……”；except和besides連線的主體類型一致，但except for（除……以外）連線的是部分與整體的關係；but相當於except。
