一、provide作\"提供；供給\"講時，常用於以下結構：
1. 接名詞作賓語。
it is said that the management will provide food and drink.
據說管理部門將供應飲食。
2. 用於provide sth. for sb.結構，即\"向某人提供某物\"，也可用provide sb.with sth. 結構。這兩者意思相同，可互換，但介詞不可混淆。
they provided some necessary support for the sufferers.
他們為受難者提供了一些必要的援助。
二、provide作\"規定\"講時，其後通常接從句作賓語。
the local law provides that valuable ancient buildings must be protected by the government.
當地法律規定，政府必須保護那些有價值的古建築。
三、provide常用的習語結構：
1. provide against... 為......作好準備；預防......。
we should try our best to provide against the return of bird flu.
我們應該盡最大努力來預防禽流感的再次發生。
2. provide for 提供生活費，養活。
he provided for his family by selling newspapers.
他靠賣報來養活他的家人。
四、provide的過去分詞形式provided和v-ing形式providing均可作連詞，用來引導條件從句，意為\"如果......的話；只要......\"。可直接接從句，也可加上that，二者可互換，但在正式文體中多用provided。
