mba申請推薦人選擇與其他專業有點不同，在選擇推薦人時你需要考慮以下幾點：
1、選了解你的人：也許你公司的總經理是很有名的人物，但如果他/她對你不熟，你還不如請你的直接上級來寫—即便他/她沒有顯赫的頭銜。了解你的推薦人應該能舉出一些可信的而生動的例子來說明申請人的管理潛力，智力水準，或個人性格。
2、選真正喜歡你的人：一個真正喜歡你的推薦人會花足夠的時間寫一封認真的推薦信;而一個不是真正喜歡你的推薦人也許會敷衍了事地寫一封不痛不癢的推薦信。另一個選真正喜歡你的人做推薦人的原因是他們會舉對你有利的例子，把一件事往好里寫，或強調一件事的正面意義，但一個不是真正喜歡你的推薦人也許會把腦袋裡首先想到的與你相關的(也許不是對你最有利的)寫進去。
3、選能支持你申請定位的人：比如你在申請中把自己描述成一個行銷專家，那么你應該找公司的行銷總監在推薦信中提供具體例子而不是請財務總監寫。
4、選個性正面樂觀的人：有些人天生傾向於是悲觀主義者，應避免讓這類人寫。
5、選辦事細緻可靠的人：你的推薦人應該根據學校給出的框架回答有關你的各個問題，在截止日期前把寫好的推薦信寄到學校。一封遲到的推薦信即使再好也沒有意義。
6、選與你共事時間近的人：一封由你十年前老闆的推薦信即使再好也沒有現在(或兩年前)的老闆寫的有說服力。

在申請就讀海外商學院MBA的過程中，準備申請材料是一件頗費心思的事情。人在國內，學校在萬里之外，申請者一般都沒有面試的機會。你只能通過高質量的自薦信和推薦信來說明並展示自己的能力。如何才能讓校方對你的材料另眼相看呢？
自薦信要脫穎而出
一份好的自薦信應該包括以下八個方面的必要內容：
教育背景。你的大學專業是什麼，你為何選擇這個專業，多年來的專業學習學到了什麼，與你選擇工商管理研究有什麼關係。
工作經歷。你曾經擔任過什麼樣的職務，這幾年來的工作中有什麼業績、學到了什麼，與你攻讀MBA有什麼關係。
社會活動組織能力。在大學期間曾經參與或組織過什麼活動，曾擔任什麼樣的工作，從中又學到了什麼。
最滿意的一次經歷。最滿意的一項工作或學習經歷是什麼，是怎樣做好它的。
最突出的才能。你認為自己最突出的方面是什麼，如領導能力、組織能力、交流溝通能力或是協調能力。
學習計畫和目的。你在攻讀MBA期間的學習計畫是什麼，攻讀MBA與你的職業追求、職業目標又有什麼關聯。
獎勵。你曾經受過何種獎勵，你是否擔任過助教，你是否有優秀的論文曾經得到發表或受到獎勵。
特長愛好。你其他需要向商學院說明或解釋的，如你的特長和愛好，或者你在某一方面，如學習成績不夠理想，需要向商學院解釋的。
同時，如果你不想讓你的自薦信埋沒在數百名甚至數千名申請者的資料堆中的話，還要特別注意以下四點提示：
不要忽視東西方文化的差異。中國人一向視“謙虛”為美德，即使取得了不錯的成績也要學會有所保留，而西方人不僅追求“優越”而且還要善於表達出來，所以申請者在寫自薦信時一定要把自己的長處毫不隱瞞地描述出來，使人一眼就能知道你優秀的方面。
要富有個性。雖然很多申請留學MBA的人都有大致相同的經歷，但實際上他們還是有很多區別的，如生活背景、學習和工作成績、所掌握的技巧等，申請者應力求在自薦信中突出自己在某方面與眾不同的成績、能力和優點。避免給人以“千篇一律”、“平平庸庸”的感覺。
要真實。美國人對一個人的誠實品質看得很重。例如在簽證時，你什麼“失誤”都可以，惟一不能做的就是對簽證官撒謊，如果你是因為撒謊而被拒簽的話，那么再簽成功率將會很低。因為撒謊是人格問題。也正因為如此，美國人覺得個人簽比蓋章更有效。為了保證申請者材料的真實性，商學院甚至要求申請者的每一份簡歷都有簽。所以申請者在準備自己的個人材料時一定要注意材料的真實性。
不要太短或太長。自薦信長短一般以1～2頁為佳，太短了，無法表達清楚，而長篇大論，校方又厭於閱讀。
