英國留學推薦信寫法
推薦信的含義
在申請研究生課程時，絕大部分學校都要求申請人提交2-3份推薦信，通常稱為Recommendation Letter或Reference(多見於英國)。錄取委員會除了注重申請人呈現出的主觀上的自己，還想借著推薦者的文字描述了解申請人客觀的背景狀況。因此，推薦信可以提供一種非量化、公式化的評估素材。
推薦信的內容
推薦信的核心內容是評估申請者的特質，以及將來在某個特定專業領域發展的潛力。有些學校會提供推薦信表格讓推薦人逐一填寫並回答問題。如：
How long have you known the applicant and in what capacity
What are the applicant’s talents or strengths and weakness
How would you assess the candidate’s potential for success in the graduate program he or she has selected
In your opinion, how could the applicant benefit from attending this graduate program
Please provide any additional comment about the applicant's personality, ability, motivation or leadership potential that are relevant to the admissions decision.

推薦人的選擇
將推薦信核心考察點細分下去，大致可將其總結為三類：一是教育背景、學習能力;二是綜合素質、活動表現;三是工作經歷、發展前景。
那么選擇什麼樣的人寫推薦信最合適呢?商學院青睞的是與申請者熟悉的、有過交集或密切聯繫的、真正欣賞申請者、並且願意客觀地去推薦的人。對一般的本科在讀生而言，比較有效的推薦人通常分別來自於專業課老師、班主任(系主任)、以及實習單位領導。
在具體選擇推薦人時應該注意：
首先，避免親屬或家庭成員。學校一般都明確規定不能由這類人來寫推薦信。原因是他們往往很難客觀反映事實。在家族企業里工作的申請者，如果一定要請親屬推薦，在寫推薦信的時候一定不要表明你們的血緣關係。
其次，推薦人的職位並不是越高越有利。有些人會困惑於究竟是找班主任還是校長、部門主管抑或公司總經理。應該說，一個身處高位但是和申請人並不熟悉的人寫出的一封用在誰身上都合適的推薦信是達不到任何效果的。只有了解申請者及其成長過程、有過共事經歷的人才能針對申請者的優缺點進行深入分析，並輔以具體的事例，提供有深度的推薦。
最後，推薦人的選擇應相輔相成，避免重複。學校一般都要求多封推薦信，那么就意味著需要選擇不同的推薦人，把側重點放在不同的地方，每個人有一個集中突出的主題，綜合在一起，才能勾勒出申請者全面完整的形象。
推薦信的撰寫
推薦信原本是一種很具隱私性的檔案，應該由推薦人親自撰寫、密封並簽字。國外錄取委員會通常也理所當然地認為申請者是看不到推薦信內容的。
所以在表格里經常看到這么一句話：I waive my right of access to this recommendation and authorize the author of this recommendation to provide an evaluation of me to *** University. 這意味著申請者放棄(現在或將來)看到這封推薦信的權利。
然而，由於客觀情況(推薦人英語水平、辦事風格等)的影響，現在的留學申請當中，有很大一部分推薦信其實是出自於申請者自己之手，推薦人通常只是通覽全篇之後負責簽字落款。那么，申請者要如何寫出“看起來真實”的推薦信呢?
首先，要遵守邏輯關係。不要提及正常情況下推薦人不可能知道的事情。例如，專業課老師往往不熟悉你的課外活動表現，班主任通常不會知道你是否熬夜寫論文泡圖書館，一個老師不適合評論申請者在其它課堂上的表現。若情況特殊，一定要交代清楚。
其次，要以“例”服人。如果一封推薦信只是泛泛而談流於形式，堆砌了溢美之詞卻沒有具體例子來支撐這些觀點，這樣的推薦信不僅不能使錄取委員會增加對申請者的了解，反而會讓他們懷疑推薦人是否有所保留。
第三，可以適當提及自己的“缺點”。按理說推薦信應該主要闡述優點，但如果只是一味吹捧，不免有粉飾之嫌。如果能恰當地加入一些“缺點”，不僅能令推薦信顯得更真實，還能突出被推薦人的個人特質。例如，“較難平衡學習和生活”可以間接體現出“廢寢忘食的態度”，“有時吹毛求疵”其實是在反映“做事認真細緻”。
最後，要全面了解和區分推薦人。包括推薦人的年齡、性格、職務、主要學術研究方向等。由此來設定不同推薦信的語言風格、字型排版，甚至紙張、信封等細節。
