國慶節（national day ）是一個國家最隆重的政治性節日，各國國慶節的名稱和日期的確定不盡相同。
從名稱上講，在世界100多個國家中，稱“國慶節”或“國慶日”（national day）的有中國等約40 個國家；稱“獨立日”或“獨立節”（independence day）的有美國、墨西哥、菲律賓、緬甸等約60個國家；稱“和日”或“和國日”（republic day）的有南斯拉夫、冰島等國家；另外還有稱“日”、“聯合日（union day）”、“成立日”、“革命節（revolution day）”等的，真是形形色色，五花八門。
從日期上說，全世界包括我國在內，約有30個國家以建國日為國慶節；有的是以憲法頒布日為國慶節，如德國；有的是以革命起義日為國慶節，如法國；有的是以國家元首的生日為國慶節，如英國、日本、泰國等。有趣的是，一些國家隨著國王、天皇或女王的更換而改變國慶節的日期。
世界上歷史最悠久的國慶節是聖馬利諾的國慶節，遠在公元3xx年，聖馬利諾就把9月3日定為自己的國慶節，至今已有1，700多年的歷史。
通常要表示“慶祝”節日，我們都用celebrate 這個詞，比如：
chinese people are going to celebrate their national day on october 1.
the mid-autumn festival was celebrated by chinese people all around the world.
要表示“以……方式慶祝”，我們通常說：
we celebrated the new year with a dance party.
we hold a dragon boat competition to celebrate the dragon boat festival.
如果要說“慶祝活動”，通常用celebration 這個詞。慶祝活動通常是不止一個了，所以還有celebrations，比如：
the villagers had a celebration， with a new film to finish up with.
i'm sure the times square celebrations cost a lot of money.

national day is coming. 國慶節快到了。
national day falls on monday this year. 今年國慶節是星期一。
october 1st. is china‘s national day. 十月一日是中國的國慶節。
