再過幾天就是春節了，家家都在準備著年貨，打掃著衛生，迎接著這個節日 的到來。
走在街上，人人臉上都洋溢著喜慶的笑容，手裡提著大包小包，不用說肯定是新年的衣服。商場裡，也是人滿為患:有小朋友牽著父母的手一起買衣服的，有夫妻倆甜甜蜜蜜買衣服的，還有兒女牽著長輩有說有笑買衣服的，總之大家都是喜氣洋洋的。
來到農村，殺豬宰羊……以各自的風俗慶春節，在有的地方還開始了集市，他喊一聲買飲料，他喊一聲買衣服，這邊喊減價了，那邊喊買二送一了，各個東西應有盡有，真是琳琅滿目，熱鬧極啦。
到了春節的大年三十晚上，春節晚會就開始了，演小品、說相聲、唱歌什麼節目都有，一個節目演完台下掌聲一片，直到三更半夜人們都困了，節目才完。節目完了，可人們還興致勃勃，因為還沒發壓歲錢、放煙花呢!等幹完這一切，差不多十二點了，小孩子們都拿著壓歲錢去睡覺了大人要閒聊一陣才去睡。
第二天，人們又得起個大早，帶著買好的禮物去走親戚，親戚多的要走好幾天呢，少的也至少要走一天多。
春節真好，可以讓人們忙碌的生活得到放鬆，也可以為大家枯燥的事情添上一些樂趣。

在除夕之前，人們都要忙著四件事：謝神、備料做粿、掃舍和買年貨。潮俗，每年冬至過後，家裡要謝神。備料做“紅桃發粿”。是將大米和糯米分別浸於水中幾小時，使米質松疏，撈乾後於石臼中打成細粉，曬乾。這就是做“紅桃法粿”的主料。掃舍要選擇吉日，是一件不尋常的事。是日，各家主婦最忙，把屋子的里里外外打掃乾淨，對一些長年少用之物都要清洗。
十二月二十四日，就是傳說中的“神上天”之期。是日，家家戶戶都要拜“糖桃”。一方紅紙，上面用軟糖擺成一粒桃子的形態，成為“糖桃”。此物沾住“杜王爺”的嘴，讓其“上天說好話，落地保平安”。過年還要拜“老爺”，也就是祭神。祭神的祭品有三樣：“紅桃發粿”、“鼠殼粿”、“菜頭粿”。“紅桃發粿”就是用綠豆去殼，然後把豆磨成粉，接著蒸熟，做粿餡料。“菜頭粿”就是蘿蔔糕。
過年祭祖，要到除夕日下午。過年，家裡已成年有收入的小輩，要給長輩送“壓歲錢”，長輩也要對未成年的小輩給“壓歲錢”，戶戶如此，體現了尊老惜幼的美德。
在正月里，潮汕地區都游神祈福的活動，就是把廟裡面的神座抬到大街上遊行，人們要放鞭炮、燒香、接福。這就是潮州春節的習俗。
