general introduction of the research on this title at home and abroad

a number of linguists have been working on the study of conversations and made their achievements. as tv talk show is recently-developing, it has attracted many scholars’ attentions and studies at home and abroad. based on the turn-taking system proposed by sacks、schegloff and jefferson, the cooperative principle by herbert paul grice、 principle by leech and the relevance theory by dan sperber and deirdre wilson, these scholars have all made amazing studies and discoveries. however, there is still potential and vast space for the study of conversational characteristics of tv talk shows, especially a contrast between chinese and american tv talk shows.

outline

development and major concepts of dts

in this part i will describe holms’ basic map of dts and the relationship between function, process and product. i will also discuss some important concepts such as pseudo-translation, multiple translation, translationese, norm etc.

methodolgy

i will in this part discuss the methodology of dts before i apply the same to the case study in this thesis with emphasis to be placed on semiotic approach and the concept norm.

禁忌是世界各民族之間普遍存在的一種文化現象，禁忌規範了人們的言語行為與社會交際。而中西文化的巨大差異直接導致了漢英禁忌語的迥異。所以，無論是在英語還是漢語中，我們都會遇到一些因傳統或社會風俗不同，會引起對方強烈反感，這樣便導致了有些詞語我們要避免使用，就是禁忌語。在經濟和信息日益全球化的今天，不同民族不同國家的人之間的交流也日益頻繁。跨文化交際是現代交際的重要組成部分，了解語言禁忌現象就成了最基本的要求，可以使跨文化交際更加得體。

而此篇論文的目的就是總結前人研究的成果，更清晰的展示出中西方禁忌語的異同，以便在跨文化交際中能避免出現言語不當的問題，並通過中西方禁忌語的異同研究出其折射的中西方文化的差異，這樣可以更透徹的了解中西方文化，對於跨文化交際很有幫助。

禁忌語是一種普遍的社會現象和語言現象，它與人們的日常生活和社會習慣有著緊密的聯繫，這在每個民族和每種語言中都有體現。中西方文化和信仰差異導致了禁忌語也存在著較大的差別。

於是，這篇論文要先陳訴清楚禁忌語的定義，來源，特徵，然後總結出中西方禁忌語的異同，最後從這些異同中總結出產生中西方禁忌語相似和差異的原因，最終從這些原因中總結禁忌語折射在文化上的差異。了解了這種差異，才能避免的跨文化交際因為文化差異而發生一些問題，有助於更好地跨文化交際。

a receptor-oriented study on the chinese-english translation of public signs

when we review resent year’s developments in china, for example, the acceding to wto, beijing olympic, shanghai expo, guangzhou asian games and so on, we found out that china had become more and more important in the world and faced bigger challenges. millions foreigners come to china every year. they travel here, eat here, play here, do business here, even live here, but sometimes most of them are confused with the public signs, because the signs transmit different meanings. there may be misunderstanding among cultures, distinct expressions of languages or different messages to the receptors. as far as the public sign is concerned, it is a kind of language to the public. but those wrong translations damage the basic function.

the famous translator nida used to say, the relationship between receptor and message should be substantially the same as that which existed between the original receptor and the message. in my mind, the translation of public signs should focus on the readers, and during the translation, we should apply the relevant policies to bring the readers’ aesthetic judgment into play and to achieve the basic function of public signs.

how to deal with ellipsis in english-chinese translation

i. purpose and significance

with the development of globalization, the world’s political, economic and cultural communications are becoming increasingly frequent. therefore, the role of translation cannot be ignored. however, the differences between english and chinese cultures that are reflected in the two languages pose considerable difficulty.

it is acknowledged that when doing translation one can not translate word for word, or sentence by sentence. therefore, we must use some translation strategies such as amplification, ellipsis, conversion and so on. ellipsis as one of the basic translation methods plays an essential role in english-chinese rendition. translators apply it in order to make their versions more coherent and understandable.

according to the oxford advanced learner’s english-chinese dictionary, ellipsis means leaving out a word or words from a sentence deliberately, when the meaning can be understood without them. ellipsis in translation does not mean cutting some content from the original articles. what could be omitted are words that are useless in translated works or else they will make the versions redundant or disobey the manner of expression in another language.

理論意義：商務英語廣告語言修辭的研究既是對修辭學理論在廣告語言這方面的具體化研究，又是對廣告語言特色的研究，有助於語言學理論的進一步完善。同時，通過對商務英語廣告語言修辭的探析有助於我們對英語國家商務廣告文化特色的了解，促進文化交流，達到思維共識，和諧發展。

實際意義：成功的商務英語廣告，少不了修辭的妙用。對商務英語廣告語言修辭的探析，為讀者提供相關理論依據，有助於指導其設計出新穎獨特的廣告，對國際商務活動起著舉足輕重的作用。從修辭學入手，將語言學的研究與語言的套用相結合，具有極強的實踐意義，為我國廣告從業人士提供一些可供參考的實用技巧。

國外動態：edward f. maquarrie 和 david glend mick 通過分析大量當代雜誌廣告，建立起一種新的綜合，清晰而又簡潔的修辭方法系統分類結構，他們認為所有的修辭方法都是對“既定表達方式的偏離”，其中分為“規整性”的結構性修辭和“不規整”的比喻性修辭。其中結構性修辭包括重複、押韻、比較、倒裝、對偶等;比喻性修辭則包括替代、誇張、變形、暗喻、雙關反語等。

國內動態：顧維勇在《實用文體翻譯》一書中談及了廣告語修辭手段的翻譯;王春暉的《淺析商務英語廣告的語言藝術》從商務英語廣告的辭彙，句法及修辭方面淺析了商務英語廣告的語言特點，提到比喻，擬人，反覆，排比，誇張，雙關六種常見的廣告修辭;項莉和喻湘波則是從比喻，語言幽默的雙關，和諧悅耳的韻律三方面來解析商務英語廣告修辭的語言魅力;洪娟的《英語廣告的修辭藝術》從詞義上的修辭手法，結構上的修辭手法，音韻上的修辭手法三方面來探討英語廣告的修辭藝術。許多學者都對英語廣告修辭做了分析。

課題名稱： catherine：the lost soul

一、課題意義

艾米莉是19世紀英國文壇中獨具創作性的作家。錢青教授評價說《呼嘯山莊》英國文壇是獨一無二的------《呼嘯山莊》激盪淋漓的力量更接近莎士比亞的悲劇和彌爾頓的史詩。

文章揭示了維多利亞時期，殘酷的壓力下人們對現實社會的控訴，從而演變成一種狂暴的愛恨情仇悲劇。而女主角冰火交融的性格正是這篇矛盾衝突尖銳的完美體現，對本課題的研究有著十分深刻的。

文章將從生活環境——自然和人文環境，以及女主角的成長曆程——空間對比等全方位多角度的進行分析論述，從而揭示這部震撼人心的悲劇小說的主心骨。

二、文獻綜述

戴維•塞西爾說：“在維多利亞時代的小說中《呼嘯山莊》是唯一一部沒有(即使是部分地)被時間的塵土遮沒光輝的”。歷代文學評論家對《呼嘯山莊》有著不同角度的評價方式如傳紀方式從以小說固有的時間地點事件等方式展示作品的的情節，從而達到很好的展示文章情節內容的效果;心理分析方式如本我自我超我的心理剖析，雙性工體的新女性等方面進行心理學方面的研究;空間方式的研究方式，把呼嘯山莊很畫眉山莊兩個不同地域進行空間對比;以及神話原型的研究方式，把中迷失的凱薩琳神話，特別是文章中夢魘和靈性的運用，不僅增添了文章的神秘性和更達到了震撼人心的效果，前人從各個角度進行分析、解讀這部作品中女主人性格情感方式。

多年來，國內外學者十分忠誠對呼嘯山莊的研究，特別是艾米麗沉默，內向，未留下任何令人感興趣的信件，她所寫的這唯一的一部小說更加深了她精神生活的神秘性。出版後被人們認為是英國文學史上一部“最具奇特的小說”，是一部神秘莫測的奇書。這部作品顛覆了當時一貫的傷感主義創作風格，以強烈的愛，暴力的恨和無情復仇，以其震撼人心的藝術力量奠定了在英國文壇上的重要地位。吸引了國內外學者對其強烈的研究欲望。

it is not a piece of news to implement the role-playing games into college students’ classroom any more, however, both chinese and foreign

researchers have studied this application for a long time via the perspective of culture or

the types and topics of tasks. all of them want to explore the important role of role-playing games in college students’ classroom. in this thesis, the author does not tend to

build up a new model of class interaction but aims to give abundant evidences to prove that

using role-playing games can change college students’ reticence indeed by promoting and enhancing

college english teaching and learning ,and adjusting ways of students’ and teacher’s

strategies. moreover, the author aims to present some implications along with tactics for

teachers to enhance classroom interaction, which makes for having a better understanding

of each other and making their teaching and learning more effective.

with the changing society, people have a view of things may have diametrically opposite point of view, how is the color of the word has become more authoritative to be a problem; how to get people to attach importance to the implied meaning of color words which may lead to cultural conflict is also a problem. as the color words in real life, the widely used, it is difficult in a paper summarizing, so how to form the color words of the formation of an effective system is a difficult. possible problems also contain: (1) limited availability of helpful data, especially the books or articles written by the native scholars; (2) difficulty in the presentation of insightful ideas and the attainment in originality due to lack of the knowledge related.
